Issue August/ September 2007
Beda “Freakpop” 2007 Acoustic Music Records

Beda is the artist name of Peter Mayer, a genial acoustic guitar
player from Austria. Beda studied guitar in Linz, Austria at the
Bruckner University, studied seven years guitar with Michael Langer,
(an authority on acoustic guitar) and attended the Conservatory in
Dresden with Thomas Fellow. Peter Mayer (Beda) is only 21 years
old and already won several prices for his musical achievements and
among participated at guitar competitions in Vienna , including the
Open Strings Festival in 2005 in Germany. His debut CD named
“Freakpop” has nothing to do with pop music, but is a showcase
of a guitar virtuoso who plays a fantastic repertoire which goes,
from finger-style, jazz, experimental, world music and beyond.
His guitar techniques seem to have no limits, which include as
well tapping and slapping, percussion, walking bass lines and a
great ability in melody line building and composing acoustic guitar
music with new dimensions. Seldom heard so much variety in one
person who plays with enormous creativity, expression and the
capability to absorb a listener completely with his musical journeys.
Very emotional pieces like “Things don't change” and for instance
deep self reflection on “Come Closer” are varied with very groovy
tracks like “7 On the Train” and “Traces” and experimental works
like “Himmelfahrt” and the intro on “Things don't change”. Beda
is a fascinating guitar talent, a virtuoso who surely will impresses
any audience. Highly recommended!
